Samantha smiling calmly in front of the ocean

Hi, I’m Samantha, a Certified Master Hypnotist and the founder of CalmSelfRewire.
I help people gently reconnect with their minds and bodies so they can feel calmer, safer, and more in control of their lives.

This page is here to explain what hypnosis really is, why it’s a natural state you already know, and how evidence-based hypnotherapy can support you with anxiety, addiction, phobias, and emotional overwhelm.

What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a focused, relaxed state of mind where your attention turns inward and your subconscious becomes more open to helpful suggestions.

You’ve already experienced hypnosis many times:
• When you’re driving and suddenly realize you don’t remember the last few miles
• When you’re so absorbed in a book, show, or your phone that you tune out the world
• When you’re daydreaming and time seems to disappear

These are all natural trance-like states. Hypnosis in a session simply guides you into this familiar state on purpose, in a safe and supportive way, so you can create real, lasting change.

You are not asleep, and you are not under anyone’s “control.” You stay aware, you can talk, and you can always choose what feels right for you.

A Natural Everyday State
Think of hypnosis like gently floating in calm ocean water. Your body relaxes, your mind softens, and the noise of the world fades into the background. You move in and out of this state every day without realizing it.

The difference in a hypnosis session is that we use this natural state with intention. In this relaxed focus, your critical mind can take a break, your deeper mind becomes more open to new patterns, and you can safely explore thoughts and memories with support.

Evidence-Based Hypnosis
Modern hypnosis is more than a stage trick. Research has shown that hypnosis can reduce anxiety, support pain management, help with habits like smoking, ease phobias, and improve sleep.

At CalmSelfRewire, I combine this research-backed approach with a deeply compassionate, trauma-aware style so you feel safe, seen, and respected at every step.

How Hypnosis Can Help You
Hypnosis can be especially supportive for anxiety, addiction, phobias, and low self-worth. It helps you relate to your past differently, with more calm, clarity, and control.

Hypnosis FAQ

What exactly is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a gentle, natural state of focused relaxation where your mind becomes quiet and receptive. It’s a safe space where we work together to help your subconscious mind adopt calmer, more supportive patterns of thinking.

What happens in the first hypnosis session?

Your first session is a 70–90 minute exploratory journey tailored to your comfort and safety. We begin with a deep conversation about your current challenges and your vision for a more empowered future. After discussing how hypnosis works and exploring how your mind receives suggestions, we move into a gentle hypnosis process. This initial session allows us to start shifting the subconscious patterns that no longer serve you.

Is hypnosis safe for someone with anxiety?

Yes, it is very safe and often deeply reassuring. My approach is evidence-based and trauma-aware, ensuring the pace always feels comfortable and respects your personal boundaries.

What does a typical session feel like?

Most people describe it as a state of deep physical relaxation combined with a very pleasant, focused mental clarity. It feels similar to being completely absorbed in a beautiful sunset or a quiet moment of daydreaming.

How many sessions will I usually need?

While some people feel a shift after just one session, most clients benefit from a short series of 3 to 6 sessions. This allows us to gently reinforce new habits and ensure the changes feel stable and integrated.

Does hypnosis work well for online sessions?

Absolutely. Hypnosis is just as effective online as it is in person, as long as you have a quiet, comfortable place to sit where you won't be disturbed. Many clients actually find it easier to relax deeply in their own familiar environment. I recommend acquiring the Zoom app for video sessions.
